Casa do Campo has a rich history dating from the early fifties when Abano Prudente Ferreira bought the farm of roughly 2000 hectares where he, his wife Julia and five children raised cattle and did dairy farming.

During the war the farm was nationalized during the early seventies and used as a military base where heavy military action took place. The underground bomb shelter with one-meter thick walls provided protection against enemy attacks. It is now used as cool sleeping quarters for groups of up to 8 persons.

Since the mid nineties some of the children began to return to the farm, after being scattered all over the world due to the war, to reclaim and rebuild the devastated war torn farm. We started farming cattle again and built Casa do Campo during 2004. The day of the official opening was a historical milestone since it was the first time in 22 years that all five the Ferreira children were together in one place! Unfortunately both parents had passed away earlier. Hats off for a gutsy family!

Casa do Campo is owned and managed by Collin Swart (husband of Irene Ferreira) and his team of dedicated staff.

Our Values

Bar & Restaurant: This is a must to enjoy! Our restaurant/bar consist of a semi-open thatch roof building with a great atmosphere.

The 2M and other beverages are always cold and a wide range of Mozambican and South African drinks are stocked. Our restaurant features a short, but quality food menu featuring seafood, steaks chicken and, of course prego sandwiches. Our specialties are grilled chicken and baby calamari! We have two qualified chefs and friendly service staff. 

Accommodation : Casa do Campo can sleep up to 36 persons in a variety of room types and sizes varying from 2 to 8 persons per room. Accommodation in the main house vary from double rooms to family suites and the “bomb shelter” while outside Wendy houses and semi-reed chalets, surrounding the old farm house, provide accommodation for 2 to 3 persons per room. Most rooms have mosquito nets although few mosquitoes are around due to regular control measures.

Sufficient shared ablution facilities are available inside and outside the main house with hot water. 

Accommodation rates vary from R120, 00 pps. to R200, 00 pp. while camping rates are from R100, 00 per site for the first 2 persons and R25, 00 pp. additionally.

Surrounding Area and farm: The surrounding area is really pretty, boasting the Lebombo mountains and the N’komati river with the southern tip of the Kruger National Park less than one kilometer from the northern corner of our 2000 hectare farm.

Komatipoort in South Africa is only 10 Km. Away while Maputo, capital of Mozambique, is a mere 75 Km. from Casa do Campo.
